STRUCTURE OF HOUSE OF PIETY
Most Prayer Circle meetings are run by the laity and are managed by lay ministers. Nevertheless, the House of Piety maintains the threefold ministry of Bishop, Priest, and Deacon, for the Holy Sacraments, which the laity are not permitted to administer.
The House of Piety is led by a Bishop, who is part of a college of Bishops. Under the level of bishop are eight ranks to be traversed in sequence. The structure follows the rubrics of the ancient church, and is as follows:
Bishop
A bishop is man validly consecrated by three other bishops, and may validly ordain any and all clergy. A bishop is experienced on the spiritual path and may guide students. May be married.
Priest
A priest is a man ordained by a bishop and may celebrate the Holy Eucharist and preside over most liturgical functions. May baptize, chrismate, marry, and may bless the people. May be married.
Deacon
A deacon is a man ordained by a bishop and may read the Gospel during the Holy Eucharist, may preside over some liturgical functions, may baptize, and may preach. May be married.
Subdeacon
A subdeacon is a man tonsured by a bishop and may read the Epistle during the Holy Eucharist. May be married.
Deaconess/Myrophora
A deaconess is a woman blessed by a bishop to assist with various functions and to lead the female community, providing aid and instruction where necessary.
Lay Minister
A lay minister has a special license to preach within and to oversee weekly prayer circles. They may catechize and instruct individuals in the faith. May be male or female.
Acolyte
An acolyte is blessed by a priest and may assist in liturgical functions. May be male or female.
