BE HOLY FOR I AM HOLY

House of Piety is an Orthodox Evangelical mission church in the Christian Holiness tradition. We seek to bring the Gospel message of holiness and pious devotion to all Christians everywhere.

Through weekly meetings in small-groups, members begin the path of Christian Discipleship, and learn the rudiments of religious piety through rigorous and ceaseless prayer.

We are part of Global Christian Orthodoxy. We follow the Anglican Rite.

OUR BELIEFS

WE ARE CHRISTIAN

We believe in the Nicene Creed.

We believe in Justification by Faith (Romans 5:1-3).

We are be Born Again (John 3:5-7).

We testify a personal encounter with Christ. (Revelation 3:20)

We profess regeneration by the Holy Spirit (John 3:8)

We seek to be Holy in this life (2 Corinthians 7:1).

We hold that good deeds and pious acts are signs of faith and election (James 2:26)

THE NICENE CREED

I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

WE ARE PIETIST

We believe personal Holiness is essential to the Gospel; we must strive to be free from Sin by Grace.

We believe that inward and outward Piety - or the reverence, zeal, and devotion to God - is the path to Holiness.

We are inspired by the great Holiness Traditions within Methodism, Lutheranism, Moravianism, Pentecostalism, and Quakerism, which stress the need for inner and outer sanctity.

We believe that constant prayer, both privately and in small groups, is the Gold Standard of Christian piety.

WE ARE ANGLICAN

We hold to the traditions, rituals, customs, and liturgical rite of the Church of England, as most appropriate for worship in both England and the United States of America, which are fully English in language, history, and culture.

We use the Book of Common Prayer for all liturgical and communal services.

We accept the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion, with a broad and Catholic reading.

We accept the teachings of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, as inherently Anglican, and we lament the needles schism between the two sects.

We trace our religious heritage to the ancient See of Canterbury, which existed before the Reformation, tracing its origin to the 6th century under Pope Gregory I.

WE ARE CATHOLIC

We employ the full Seven Sacraments of the Ancient Apostolic and Catholic Church. 1.Baptism

II. Chrismation

III.Confession

IV. Holy Eucharist

V. Matrimony

VI. Ordination

VII. Unction

We Uphold the General Councils of the Church (The Seven Oecumenical Councils)

We profess the Threefold Ministry of Deacon, Priest, and Bishop.

We believe in the living intercession and communion of the Saints in Heaven.

We reject the iconoclastic heresy, and we permit icons and statuary.

We believe the Pope is the valid Bishop of Rome, though not infallible or of universal authority.

WE ARE ORTHODOX

We practice within the Hesychastic tradition of the Eastern Orthodox Church, which is nothing other than 'ceaseless prayer of the Heart', according to the great Saint and Mystic, Saint Gregory Palamas

We practice the Jesus Prayer and the Holy Name as a central devotion.

Jesus Prayer: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have Mercy on Me, a Sinner"

Holy Name: "Jesus Christ/Iesu Christe/Yeshua"

We believe in Theosis, or the acquisition of Godliness, through sanctification, whereby the Soul shares in the Divine Life of God.

We are in communion with the Orthodox Archeparchy of St. Peter the Aleut, under His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicholas Marius Sidau of the United States of America, of the Orthodox Patriarchate of Nations.

We recognize the Archbishop of Constantinople as having a valid office, but we deny his universal title and his dominion over world orthodoxy.

WE ARE EVANGELICAL

Every Christian is Priest, Prophet, and King, through Jesus Christ.

We believe in the empowerment of ordinary Christians to do extraordinary things.

We reject spectatorship and passive membership.

We value robust, dynamic, and lively gatherings of everyday people in the Spirit.

We train lay ministers, lay counselors, and lay prayer instructors, alongside our regular Ordained Clergy.

WE ARE DISCIPLES

We believe in Jesus the Master, who physically taught human disciples on Earth.

We believe in Apostolic Succession, by which Christ granted the same teaching authority to those ordained. (John 20:22)

We believe in private, face-to-face teaching as the normative means of Christian discipleship, ideally performed by a spiritual elder of the faith.

WE ARE ECUMENICAL

We welcome sincere newcomers of all backgrounds to our meetings.

We invite all validly baptized Christians to partake in holy communion and to recieve our sacraments.

We do not demand exclusivistic or cult-like membership.

We seek the ultimate reunion of all Nicene Christians.
